Marist Red surprised in both the Under 16 Boys and Under 18 Mens finals at yesterdays Northern Regional League finals. The leagues now in their 15th year drew 18 Under 18 teams and 27 Under 16 teams this year across both genders.
The Marist Red male teams - which have promised much finally delivered with nailbiting wins in the finals. Marist Red Under 18 Men fought off the underdog role to capture the final 10-8 over North Harbour A after the match went to a penalty shoot out after having been tied in ordinary and extra time at 7 all. Waitakere grabbed the bronze 6-5 from North Harbour B with Waitakere Teal and Marist Blue heading off Tauranga and Waikato to take 5th and 6th respectively
And Marist Red Under 16 Boys also shook off a recent loss by getting up again in extra time to beat Waitakere Gold 8-7 . North Harbour A took third after also losing 7-6 to Marist Red in extra time in the semi final earlier in the day. Marist Blue took 4th from North Harbour B,, Tauranga, Waitakere Teal and Waikato.
