Marist opened the match with a 4-2 lead which saw the two teams back at 6 all by the half time break. Marist kept its nose in front for the next 2 quarters until when Alex Reed netted for North Harbour inside the 2 minute mark to level the scores again. The game looked destined for a draw between the 2 unbeaten sides but North Harbour netted with 3 seconds remaining. A Marist timeout failed to net the equaliser and North Harbour go unbeaten for the season. Thomas Kearns and Chris Broome each netted three goals for the North Harbour side a figure matched by Johnathon Ware for Marist. The match played in front of a packed house was fitting for the top of the table clash and featured no fewer than 16 Under 20 players - 8 in each side - signalling that the future of Mens water polo in NZ looks to have a good base to build on. Marist and North Harbour both take on Maranui and QE11 over the next two days with both visitinng teams also playing the Waitakere Blue Devils. |
